Environment

Polarica's raw materials grow in ecosystems – Nordic forests, cultivated farmland, tropical growing regions – that depend on stable climates, healthy soils and predictable seasons. Protecting those systems is a supply chain condition, not a separate sustainability commitment.

Caring for the environment has always been part of how we work. In 2022, we gave that work a firmer structure by setting measurable targets and reporting our environmental impact against a defined baseline. By 2026, all three production sites hold ISO 14001 certification, our Scope 1 and 2 emissions are down 91%, and our first EcoVadis assessment placed us in the top 7% in the Environment category.

What we have achieved

ISO 14001 at all three production sites

All three production sites are now ISO 14001 certified: Świdwin in Poland was certified in 2024, Lappeenranta in Finland completed certification in spring 2026, and Haparanda in Sweden finalised its certificate in June 2026.

EcoVadis Bronze, top 7% in Environment

Our first EcoVadis assessment gave us a score of 78/100 in the Environment pillar, placing us in the top 7% in the Environment category among companies in our industry. This is independent recognition that our environmental work reflects real operational standards, not just reporting.

Emissions, water and energy

Scope 1 and 2 emissions fell from 4,466 to 409 tonnes CO₂e since 2021, a 91% reduction. Total water consumption decreased 20%, from 62,416 to 49,959 m³. Energy intensity improved to 0.666 MWh per tonne produced in 2025, with 93.5% of our energy coming from renewable sources.

Net-zero 2035

Science Based Targets (SBTi)

Our GHG emissions reduction targets are validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), with 2021 as the base year:

  • Scope 1 and 2: −42% by 2030

  • All scopes: −90% by 2035

  • Net zero by 2035

Against the 2030 target, our current position is already materially lower than the pathway requires.

Working on Scope 3

Scope 3, the indirect GHG emissions across our value chain, accounts for 99% of our total footprint. Purchased raw materials are the largest contributor within Scope 3. Addressing this requires working directly with our suppliers across all sourcing countries.

In late 2024 we ran ESG and carbon footprint training with selected suppliers. We are deepening collaboration with the two groups that contribute most: frozen mango from Vietnam and strawberries from Egypt.

Forest carbon and biodiversity

We partner with Havulatva Oy, a Finnish provider of climate solutions, to support forest-based carbon sequestration. The project removed 1,310 tonnes CO₂e in 2025.

Our Group Biodiversity Programme is planned for completion in 2027, applying the LEAP approach and ISO 17298 as the framework for its design.
